Mould Removal in the household

Have unsightly mould? Don’t worry! We are the mould treatment and mould removal experts! Ceiling and wall mould is a common issue in Perth. Mould is especially prevalent in bathrooms, generally positioned on the perimeter of the property. This usually means that the roof pitch is at its lowest in this area.

When moisture from shower use is inadequately ventilated, the moisture hits the underside of the roof and consequently drips back down onto the topside of the ceiling or insulation. This in turn creates a damp and humid environment within the roof cavity.

Why Mould Removal?

If not attended to, mould will worsen over time. This can result in a breeding ground for toxic black mould spores (Stachybotrys chartarum), producing toxins called mycotoxins

Mould is harmful to the health of those who are in regular contact with it.

General symptoms caused by toxic black mould include:

  • Damage to internal organs.
  • Tiredness.
  • Immune system suppression.
  • Mental impairment.
  • Hemorrhage.
  • Respiratory problems.
  • Immune system suppression.
  • Nausea.
  • Irritation of the mucous membranes.

When attending to mould affected areas, we take every precaution. Above all we wear appropriate protective clothing and use quality breathing apparatus.

The following points detail our methodology when dealing with mould affected properties:

1. Identify source of problem.

2. Implement preventative measures such as:

  • Direct ducted ventilation.
  • Sufficient roof ventilation.
  • Ensure insulation has not been squeezed in at perimeter so that it is in contact with both underside of roof and ceiling. This results in transfer of condensation, causing dampness.
  • Remove any damp insulation.
  • Ensure ceiling isn’t too damp, allow to breathe.

3. Treat mould with a chemical free trusted solution.

4. Prepare preventative maintenance plan; of how to maintain mould-free environment for customer.

*It is important to note: if a ceiling is too badly affected by mould, then that ceiling section should consequently be removed and replaced. Preventative measures should be implemented prior to this.

Natural light

CSR Edmonds Turbobeam roof vent;  perspex head, allowing natural light into roof cavity.

Mould grows better in a darker environment. Similarly, natural light also deters nocturnal animals i.e. rats.

Natural ventilation

Ensure windows and doors are open as much as possible. Furthermore, it helps to have mesh security screens which act as both a security and fly screen.

Electrical ventilation

Leave exhaust fans on after showering. There remains a lot of moisture to be dispersed once the shower has been turned off.
